Dr. T. Mohapatra is presently holding the position of Principal Scientist at National Research
Centre on Plant Biotechnology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He obtained his M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees
in Genetics from IARI. He has been working in the broad areas of molecular marker based applications and genomics.
He is teaching Molecular Genetics to the postgraduate students for the past 10 years and has served
as a member of the advisory committee of more than 80 students.
Dr. Mohapatra has over 45 research papers in national and international journals of repute and 10
book chapters. His research accomplishments include molecular mapping in Indian Mustard (Brassica juncea), molecular
marker analysis of somatic cell hybrids of mustard and its wild relatives, development of DNA fingerprinting technology in
rice, wheat and mustard, construction of physical map and sequencing of the long arm of rice chromosome 11 etc.
He has the distinction of receiving numerous honours and national awards in recognition to his excellent
academic and research contributions. These include: Young Scientist Award of the Indian National Science Academy (1994), Prof.
L.S.S. Kumar Memorial Award of INSA (1994), NAAS-Tata Young Scientist Award
of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2001) and Dr. B. P. Pal Memorial Award of the Indian Agricultural Research
Institute, New Delhi (2002), National Bioscience Award of the DBT, Govt. of India, for career advancement for the year 2003-04. |
